about Futurists World
Today, we are regularly reminded by how divided the world is. However, the future is not set, we can change our course, but only if we’re inspired to do so.
Futurists World is an original video streaming and audio podcast series exploring different profiles of the future through the stories of scientists, innovators and thought-leaders around various themes including the future of society, technology, happiness and time.
The inspiration for Futurists World is Arthur C Clarke. Clarke was one of the greatest futurists of all time.
Amongst his predictions that came true are reported to be:
- The communications satellite
- The internet
- Personal computers
- Mobile phones
- Smart watches
- And artificial intelligence.
We believe his greatest achievement was making the future engaging through his stories, including all-time classics like:
- 2001
- The Rama series
- The City and the Stars
- And my personal favourite The Fountains of Paradise.
In 1962, Arthur C Clarke wrote a brilliant non-fiction novel about futurology called:
Profiles of the Future : An Inquiry into the Limits of the Possible
This book explores different prophetic visions of the future around things like:
- The Future of Transport
- Riding On Air
- Beyond Gravity
- The Quest for Speed
- World without Distance
- Ages of Plenty.
And it famously coins Clarke’s Three Laws:
Law 1
When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.
Law 2
The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
Law 2
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
